This type of inspection is usually carried out for vessel owners looking to maintain the seaworthiness of the ship and any specific items aboard

A condition survey is often commissioned by insurance companies looking to maintain cover on any particular vessel.  These inspections tend to focus on Protection & Indemnity in relation to ship management.

Hull & Machinery inspections cover maintenance of systems schedules and ongoing requirements to ensure the safe operation of the vessel.

In addition, this type of survey is also carried out for charterers at the start of a timed charter and financial institutions in relation to ships valuation.
